Well, I finally received my permit to enter Canada, and managed to get another flight. Phew!
Meanwhile, for all those people who wrote to me to say that it's too short notice to host me at their shul, I do plan to return to the US in February. Please be in touch if you'd like to arrange a program. I am partial to Florida if possible!
On another note, here's a funny story. A few days ago I had a dermatologist appointment. Evidently she knew who I am, because when she was filling out the patient record, she asked if she should write "Zoo Rabbi" as my occupation. Then she started talking about how upset she is that her sons have been in reserve duty all year while charedim continue life as normal and receive financial subsidies. Anyway, after she removed a nasty thingy from my head that was caused by the sun, she told me that I have to get a hat to wear outdoors. And she said that a baseball hat is no good, because it has to shield my ears and the back of my neck. She said that I need a hat with a brim all around, like a black hat. And then she started convulsing with laughter, saying "I can't believe that I told Natan Slifkin to start wearing a black hat again!"
While in Toronto buy a Tilley hat! They are great and wide brimmed. See https://ca.tilley.com/
Lifetime guaranteed to never wear out. And they are practically indestructible. An elephant ate one and after it came through, after a thorough washing it was claimed to be just fine (although I don't think I would wear it).
very funny!
Baruch Hashem you got in, but we will miss the opportunity to have your for Shabbat!
