Some charedim recognize that they should be sharing the burden and mitzvah of protecting the nation. And they may feel a need to leave yeshiva and join one of the frameworks for charedim that are being set up by the army. And so a certain organization has created a video to dissuade them, and to encourage them to call a helpline which will assist them in avoiding army service. Here it is:
In case you can’t follow the Hebrew, the gist of it is that if you join the IDF, you will be ordered around and have to train hard physically, and so you should stay in yeshiva, which is so much easier.
If you think that’s the craziest thing you’ve seen today, I’ve got something even crazier.
The name of this organization which seeks to ensure that charedi boys take the easy way out and leave all the reservists to spend endless time away from their learning and jobs and wives and children?
Achim Anachnu - “We Are Brothers.”
The clip is amazing:
Better to sit in a Beis Midrash wasting one's life (admittedly non-productive and bored) than to go where you feel needed and productively contribute to the rest of society.
Why?
Because if you go where needed, it won't fly anymore to sit and gossip all day, all the while packing on the pounds in the coffee room.
Instead, you will have to be disciplined, physically fit, and exert yourself to your physical limits.
What a horrible thought!
Yup, it's religiously better to remain soft, lazy, selfish, unhealthy, and non-productive.
Got it.
Just think about how much this fellow's going to be costing the health system once he's middle-aged and 50 pounds heavier.
