Let's call it for what is is. Kabala is Jewish magic, plain and simple. If u believe in magic, kabala has lots to offer. If not, it is merely cute (at best) folklore.
Practically speaking, on our yeshuv in the North the grade school kids had their bonfires from 8-10 pm (around 10 or so bonfires). The middle school had their bonfires from 10 pm to midnight, and the high schoolers had fun from midnight until dawn (no school today). Lots of fun with very good parental supervision and fire hoses ready, just in case.
To those not so enthused with the whole ceremony it appears more like crowd sparked enthusiasm than true spirituality. But to some it may be spiritual.
Are You a Lag B'Omer Grinch?

Isn’t Lag Baomer really to commemorate R Akiva’s students who died in the Bar Kochba revolt and they euphemistically described it as a ״plague”…?
What is shocking is that Lag Baomer is treated like it is almost a mitzvah doraita!
When does inspiration begin and end and spirituality begin and vice versa?

I hear the cheil ha’avir is getting ready to unveil its new fighter jet… the lag bomber.
Lag Baomer is a very silly Holiday…
