Beautiful.

Years ago I got into an online argument with some charedi guy on a frum web site. He insisted that Torah study was important even if you never practice. I was horrified. I asked about studying kashrut law while eating pig meat. He said that it was more important to learn the laws of eating pig meat than to actually refrain from eating pig meat. I ended the conversation by saying that I couldn't argue with pig eaters.

But as we in daf yomi struggled until last month with Zevachim and now are struggling even more with Menachot, the thing about study leading to practice is challenging. We have not had a Beit HaMikdash in a long time -- and Zevachim ends with sugyot about hilchot bamot -- halachot that do not apply today and never will, ever again! Why did Chazal bother including it in the codification of the Oral Torah?
