I’d love to see a merry go round/carousel at the museum ;-) I’m sure those old school lions and horses etc still exist. Even if not a carousel (space permitting) would be fun for everyone

BTW, I was wondering "isn't it a problem to have 3D lion sculptures in shul?" and it seems there are opinions in both directions.

AI Overview

The phrase "the triumphant shall roar like a lion" relates to biblical imagery, primarily from Hosea 11:10, where God's, and subsequently His people's, roar signifies power, ultimate victory, and restoration. It symbolizes divine strength, the fearless, bold proclamation of truth, and the gathering of the faithful in triumph.

Biblical Context (Hosea 11:10): The verse describes the Lord roaring like a lion, causing His children to tremble and return from the west, Egypt, and Assyria to their homes.

Symbolism of the Lion's Roar: The lion represents a king, and its roar indicates a commanding presence, authority, and the certainty of God's action.

The Righteous as Lions: Proverbs 28:1 states that "the righteous are as bold as a lion". This refers to the confidence, courage, and fearlessness of those who walk in truth, often contrasted with the fear of the wicked.

Triumphant Over Enemies: The imagery is used to describe God's victory over adversaries and the subsequent joy and boldness of His people in that triumph.

Prophetic/Worship Application: It is used in modern prophetic, intercessory, and worship contexts to encourage believers to act with boldness, declare the truth, and rely on spiritual strength to overcome adversity.

The roaring represents the confident, loud, and victorious response of the righteous, often in praise or in facing challenges, stemming from their security in God.

Made by Herschell-Spillman Company, North Tonawanda, New York. A yiddische company?

Said to have been the leading manufacturer of carousels in the U.S., early in the 20th Century.

Wow! What a great story. Of course it was divine providence! Do you know the name of the artist of the lions you ended up buying? It is so sad that this great artisans are not getting the recognition they deserve. Thanks goodness for that exhibit at the American Folklore Museum. I would love to know more about Marcus Charles Illions. Maybe someone can write a Wikipedia article about him?
