Snails and Gems
Wonders of Torah and Nature
NEWSFLASH! We interrupt this series of posts about the decline of Israel due to charedi isolationism in order to share news of two exciting events taking place at the Biblical Museum of Natural History!
First is a Techelet workshop, tomorrow night. Featuring live snails, a dyemaking demonstration, and fascinating insights into the history and rediscovery of this special Biblical dye! There are separate workshops in English and Hebrew:
If you would like to attend, book online at this link. (And in response to the endless question I get about why I personally do not wear techelet, see this post. But I’m getting close to the point of changing my practice.)
The second exciting event is the launch of our extraordinary new mineral exhibit, taking place a week from tomorrow. No photos can do justice to these incredible specimens. One of my colleagues is relentlessly making fun of me, because when the exhibit was set up, I marveled at how the minerals looked like they possessed mystical energy!
These marvels of the natural word are awe-inspiring, and the exhibit also includes some very special minerals that are mentioned in the Torah. While this will be a permanent exhibit, the launch event will present them without a glass barrier and with fascinating insights.
Space is extremely limited for this event; booking is required, which you can do at www.BMNH.org.il/minerals.
And now backed to our regularly scheduled programming. The next post will be about a “Letter from the Roshei Yeshivah and Rabbonim” about charedim and the IDF. But it’s not at all the letter that you would expect.

See you at the mineral collection dedication!!! :)
