Worth noting that this isn't exclusive to modern Israel; ultra-Orthodox Jews in the US (and elsewhere) also extensively take advantage of the modern welfare state to support their lifestyle. (Of course, this is done much more indirectly than in Israel; in Israel much of the welfare is explicitly directed to Charedim.)
Absolutely. When the Blair government in the UK extended welfare payments that benefited those learning in Kollel, charedim in the UK affectionately referred to these payments as "Tony Blair's Kollel".
I will say, the Haredi actions have inspired me to study Torah. Because I refuse to believe that their despicable behaviour is actually based on the bedrock of my religion, but I am not (currently) educated enough to resoundly dispute that. So I guess Bar Ilan owes them a thanks for my upcoming tuition payments!

I can assure you that their version of the Torah is their own Torah. amended to meet their interests and probably further from what the torah is than the reform movement- Lehavdel. these charedi gruops dont practice judaism. they practive mondern day extorsion and banditry.
