An era of primordial chaos. Savagery and fighting. Survival of the strongest.
But enough about the Israeli elections! I want to talk about dinosaurs and cavemen.
While I was in Chicago this past weekend, I went to visit the historic Field Museum (a natural history museum). This enormous museum has some extraordinary exhibits. They have the original notorious man-eating lions of Tsavo, which were finally killed by Colonel John Patterson in 1898.
Patterson, an ardent Christian lover of the Jewish People, went on to create the Jewish Legion of the British Army for World War I, which led to the existence of trained Jewish soldiers who were able to defend Israel in the War of Independence. The full fascinating story is discussed in my book The Lions of Zion, and I attended the re-interment of Patterson’s remains in Israel, where the guest speaker was the son of a couple who were very close to Patterson and named their son after him - the Netanyahus. Yoni Netanyahu sacrificed his life to save Israel, whereas Bibi, in contrast - but enough about the Israeli elections!
The Field Museum has terrific exhibits of prehistoric life. Sue the Tyrannosaurus Rex, pictured at the top of this post, is the most famous. But they also had an amazing life-size model of a quetzalcoatlus. This enormous pterosaur (flying dinosaur) stood 18 feet in height with a ten-foot head and had a thirty-six foot wingspan!
