Thank you for this. Very powerful words, putting things in perspective. Especially the quote from Lord of the Rings! Tolkien is hobbit-forming. 😊

The movie of The Fellowship of the Ring came out right after 9/11, and their newspaper ads used a picture of Frodo and Gandalf saying these lines. Appropriate then and now.

R' Slifkin, this is beautifully put.

"During the Holocaust, the mass slaughter continued for years. On October 7, every act of Israeli resistance shifted the narrative arc from millennia of Jewish suffering to another chapter in the Zionist quest to build and defend a Jewish homeland."

This is so true, and beautifully said! Even in moments of tragedy, we must recognize the miracles, the acts of bravery, and the stories of salvation.

While October 7th was a horrific day, it was also filled with remarkable moments of courage and open miracles. We must always remember this and never take for granted the zechut of living in and defending our homeland and continually offer hakarat hatov to Hashem for His ongoing protection and brachot.

Well said. Good to get some balance in our predicament amongst the noise from the external world and the sometimes over-emphatic views of the different sections of our own people.

So beautifully said, Natan. But one comment. It is NOT "shver" to be a Jew. It is glorious to be a Jew!
